Trivial Pursuit

Chris Haney and Scott Abbott supposedly came up with the idea for the game Trivial Pursuit after attempting to play Scrabble, but finding many of the pieces missing in their game set, so started trying to come up with ideas for a different game. Finally landing on the outrageously successful Trivial Pursuit

Merv Griffin states that the idea for Jeopardy! came from his wife. In his own words: “My wife Julann just came up with the idea one day when we were in a plane bringing us back to New York from Duluth. I was mulling over game show ideas, when she noted that there had not been a successful ‘question and answer’ game on the air since the quiz show scandals. Why not do a switch, and give the answers to the contestant and let them come up with the question? I loved the idea, went straight to NBC with the idea, and they bought it without even looking at a pilot show.”

Three more shows that make the top 10 list of the most popular trivia game shows are Who wants to be a Millionaire, Deal or No Deal and Wheel of Fortune. Try a trivia game show at your next event, just for the fun of it! Call or email to discuss your event
